Session 2 (Look who we found!)

The adventurous team concluded they had lingered long enough on Yamm and charted a path for Tefnut.

Aden inquired, “Captn', what's our destination station?” With a cheeky grin, he added, “I'd pick Serenity, for clear reasons.”

“We'll dock at any station with open bays,” Lars countered.

Typically, such short voyages are calm and uneventful. But not this one. As Khivrak was in the midst of putting her assault rifle together, the ship was hit by a gravitational wave. The abrupt shake propelled her against a workbench, damaging her primary hand and making her Saber useless (Starship Travel Event: Accident). Valeri and Narira managed to tend to her injuries, but she might be a liability if they encountered any threats ahead (“Recuperating from wounds”).

Tefnut's in sight! We're heading to Rebus Station,” Lars announced.

Narira exclaimed, “Fantastic! There's so much to do. First up, I'm finding a shooting range. I can't wait to test this Avenger.”

Before their departure from Yamm, Aden located a junk dealer who offered him credits in exchange for the Omni-Blade and the damaged Krogan Hammer. (From this sale, the crew gained an additional credit during the Upkeep phase).

Lars sent 6 credits to the shipbroker as a payment towards the vessel's debt (Ship Debt). The outstanding amount now stands at 10 credits.

Upon a secure docking at Rebus Station, Lars shut down all systems and remarked, “Head out and relax, everyone. I'll scout for a job, preferably one without Remnants on our tail! Just try to avoid any issues, will you?”

Narira, making her way out, replied with a playful tone, “Can't guarantee that, captain!” while clutching her Avenger.

“I'm with you,” Valeri interjected, her gaze fixed on Lars. “I'll assist you in the job hunt.”

Phil, how about causing some mischief with me?” Aden teased. Phil responded, “No, I'd rather see if I can repair Khivrak's Saber. You carry on.”

“Alright, catch you later,” said Aden.

Khivrak reassured Phil that he didn't need to concern himself with her weapon and should instead join Aden. They then delved deep into a thought-provoking conversation about how different species across the cosmos define “fun”.

Time flew, and a few hours later…

“Got it fixed. It should work like it's brand new now. I replaced the entire top section,” Phil noted, showing off the rifle's seamless mechanics (Allocated 2 credits to support the Repair Dice roll). “Thanks, Phil,” Khivrak expressed her gratitude.

Soon after, an energized Narira made her appearance, ecstatic about the Avenger's precision. “Or perhaps it's my unparalleled expertise,” she quipped.

The trio burst into laughter. “Definitely your extraordinary skills,” Khivrak quipped, which led to an even more boisterous round of giggles.

“What's the joke?” Lars inquired, stepping through the hatch.

Narira and her legendary marksmanship,” Khivrak managed to say between fits of laughter. However, soon she was the only one laughing.

“Sounds like you had a good time at the range,” Lars observed. “Well done.”

Grinning, Narira responded, “Thanks, captain,” all the while casting a bemused glance at Khivrak.

Lars shifted the mood, “I wasn't successful in locating a job for us. Valeri was discussing something with an individual when I left.”

“I was thinking of reaching out to Captain Haymore for potential leads,” Lars began, only to be interrupted by Valeri's entrance. “Might not need to,” Valeri interjected.

“I met a Council Agent at the bar,” Valeri shared. “After wrapping up a missing person case, he pointed out the lack of support from Rebus Security due to their understaffing. He advised I approach them with our services. So, want to join me?”

Intrigued, Lars replied, “Sounds promising. Let's explore that lead.”

Aden, entering the scene, questioned, “What's the plan?”

“We're off to learn more about a potential assignment,” Lars informed.

“Thought we were departing. I’ve taken quite a liking to this place. Might just decide to stay put. (“This place is rather nice, really.” Exploration event)” Aden pondered aloud.

Lars responded, “Let’s discuss your plans when I'm back.”

Just as they prepared to depart, a familiar voice resonated through the hangar bay, catching everyone off guard. Lars peered from the ship's hatch and his concerns were validated.

Blackstar Syndicate,” he muttered discreetly.

Facing his team, he revealed, “You recall those individuals I mentioned? The ones responsible for decimating my previous crew? They've tracked me down.” There was a gravitas to his tone.

“There seem to be only three. Stay put, I'll handle this,” he proposed.

With a steely demeanor, Valeri retorted, “Six against one feels more favorable, Captain.”

Khivrak fervently agreed, “Count me in, Captain!”

Lars responded, touched, “I value your support, truly. But they're my burden. They’ve claimed one crew from me; I won’t let them claim another.”

Furthermore, pointing at Khivrak, he added, “You're still on the mend.”

Narira countered, “But the rest of us are fit and ready, Captain.”

Amidst their exchange, the adversary taunted, “Your stalling won’t help, Lars. Face us, let's end this!”

Prompted by that jeer, Lars’s crew collectively advanced towards the hatch. Valeri, eyes locked on Lars, challenged, “Well, are you joining us or not?”

Since a rival tracked them down, there will be no “Seize the Initiative” roll. We go straight to the Reactions roll.

Quick Actions Phase

Narira quickly sprints (Dash) and takes up position at the foot of the stairs, at about 5 0'clock of their starting position.

Phil sprints (Dash) behind a terminal close to Narira.

Enemy Actions Phase

The enemy maintains their covered positions (Defensive AI).

Slow Actions Phase

Aden moves into cover.

Valeri sprints (Dash) to the 7 o'clock position and starts up the stairs to a mezzanine level.

Lars moves (Dash) a few feet behind Valeri.

Quick Actions Phase

Narira moves up the stairs to a covered position and fires at the closest Mercenary to her, also in a covered position.

Enemy Actions Phase

The Mercenary that Narira fired at returns fire striking her center mass. She goes down (6 on attack roll, 5 on defense roll).

The remaining Mercenaries maintain their position.

Slow Actions Phase

Phil moves up close to Narira's position.

Adenmoves (Dash) up to the bottom of the stairs.

Valeri sprints (Dash) up the stairs, across the mezzanine, and down another set of stairs into a covered position.

Lars moves up the stairs and onto the mezzanine.

RETCON – I originally planned more dependence upon the Omni-Tool within the ruleset to match the Video Game dependency. However, due to the time required to develop this ruleset, it slipped my mind. So, moving forward, all player characters start the game with the Bluewire Omni-Tool. The characters have 5 Omni-gel and Medi-gel units available at the game's start. This comes into play in Round 3. – The Storyteller

TODO: Ruleset changes are needed to explain the Medi-gel rules in combat and Omni-gel rules out of combat. Rules need to ensure PCs have ready access for resupply.

Quick Actions Phase

Phil moves into position next to Narira and administers Medi-gel (5 units are expended to “Revive” a crewmember who has become a casualty. Using a combat action is required to revive the crewmember. A revived crewmember becomes eligible for action at the start of their next Round. However, with 1 stun marker.)

Enemy Actions Phase

Enemies remain in covered positions taunting the crew of the Starbound Reckoning.

Slow Actions Phase

Aden moves into a covered position next to Phil.

Valeri moves into a covered position and fires at the closest Mercenary with her Vindicator. Just missing him.

Lars also moves up into a covered position and fires at the same Mercenary. Missing him WAY over his head (Nat 1 on attack dice!).
