Session 1 (The Abandoned Mine)

NOTE: Die rolls are just die rolls and I will (and have) fudge a roll or two if it helps tell the story I want to tell. The story is more important than the mechanics or “winning” the game. Mechanics are there to assist in telling the story. The characters for the story I want to tell and what I have “rolled” up are heroic characters (a cut above your average person walking the streets but they don't know that yet). All character Stats are based on actual dice rolls on the Background, Motivation, Class, and Starting equipment tables. In the end, I feel it will wash out and tell a great story. – The Storyteller

The start of a new week with a new crew. Lars assembled the crew aboard the Starbound Reckoning to discuss their new opportunities.

Lars tells everyone that he's going to find some work so they can earn some credits and he strongly suggests that everyone find something productive to do while he's gone.

Valeri said “I'm headed out to shoot some Sand Runners in the warehouse district. I'll be back later”. Phil speaks up and says “That sound like fun. Mind if I join you?”. “Not at all.” Valeri says.

Aden stands up. Looks at Khivrak and Narira and says “I'm headed downtown. I know a guy who knows a guy. Maybe I'll find something useful.” and he leaves.

Khivrak simply stands up and walks out behind Aden.

Narira stands up and leaves as well.

Later that evening…

Valeri and Phil were the first to return to the ship. They were discussing the importance of “leading your target” and by how much when Aden returned carrying a MASSIVE Krogan Hammer.

“Where did you get that thing!” Valeri explaimed.

“I traded a Volus Merchant who seemed desperate to trade. I mean I gave him that Polaris Tool junk for this thing!”. Aden said excitedly

“You do realize that a Krogan Hammer is indeed a rare find. What's even more rare, is finding a working Krogan Hammer. Phil said. “Ha! Jokes on him then. That Onmi-Tool was busted!” said Aden

“I guess we'll see what Khivrak has to say when she returns.” Valeri said.

When Khivrak returns, she let Aden know that for a human to be in possession of a working Krogan Hammer, that human must take it from an elder Krogan Warlord after taking his life. She laughed loudly and gave him the bad news that he was in possession of a non-working Krogan Hammer possibly discarded by its previous owner on the field of battle when it malfunctioned. The fact that a Volus merchant was willing to part with it for the mear price of an Omni-Tool, working to not working, should have been his first clue that the Krogan Hammer was non-functional.

Narira returned just before Lars and was explaining the salvage mission details when Lars walked in. She continued, “There are potentially some good credits to be made but there's a catch… we have to pay the broker 2 credits for the salvage permits.”. “Do we have to start right away?” asked Lars.

“There's a lot of interest in these salvage jobs due to their lucrative nature.” She said. “The quicker we act, the quicker we can get some credits.” (salvage jobs are only available during the turn in which they are discovered).

“or perhaps we could do the Nubian Group a favor.” Lars says.

“Why would the Nubian Expanse Council want us to do them a favor?” Phil asked. “Don't they have operatives to do their “favors”?”.

“Well, I actually cashed in a favor from Captain Angelico Haymore that she owed me. All we have to do is go have a look at an abandoned Eezo mine. It's right here on Yamm. A salvage crew went no-comms a few weeks ago and all she needs is an “eyes on the ground” thing. We go in, take a look around, talk to the salvage crew, and earn a few credits. Maybe Phil can take a look at their Comms issue while we're there. Hell, she's even offered transportation to and from the site! (Job Hazard)”.

“What do you guys think?” Lars asked.

“Even “off the record”, I'm sure this would put us in good standing with the Council and that could be a very good thing.” Lars continued.

Narira speaks up and says with a wink “Maybe there is a little Eezo left there as well.”.

“I say let's give it a shot.”

The group arrived at the location and surprised (Deployment Condition) a large group of Husks. Valeri took cover behind a dilapidated radar dish and eliminated a Husk nearby with her Vindicator. (First Kill)

Narira was next to take up position near the radar dish and she also eliminated the closest Husk with her Predator.

Khivrak dropped to one knee and steadied herself against the retaining wall and took aim at particular nasy-looking Husk (Specialist) on a ledge North-West of their position striking the Husk dead center mass. The force from the impact removed the center of its chest and sent the Husk sliding backward into a stairway close by (NAT 6 on damage dice).

Lars took aim at a Husk some 40 yards away but his rifle jammed (NAT 1 on attack dice).

Phil moved and took a position behind Khivrak, his Predator at the ready.

The compound began to stir with movement from all the gunfire. Valeri and Narira both comment about all the blood on the ground the further in they go.

Quick Actions Phase

Valeri moved up to a position behind a pile of rocks and fired at the closest Husk, striking the stone obelisk it stood near.

Enemy Actions Phase

A Husk appeared from behind a container to the west and shambled its way toward the group.

A really nasty-looking Husk (Lieutenant) appeared high on a ledge, dead-center of the compound. He steps up to the edge of the ledge, surveys the area, and aims an Assault Rifle toward Valeri, the shot glancing off the rocks in front of her.

The remaining Husks all make their way in the direction of the crew. The Husk closest to Valeri takes a shot at her and hits the radar dish behind her!

The Nasty-looking Husk (Specialist) on a ledge just north of Valeri fires its Assault Rifle at her, narrowly missing her.

Slow Actions Phase

Narira moves up beside Valeri and fires her Shuriken at the closest Husk, taking it out with extreme prejudice!

Khivrak adjusts her position, aims at the Big Bad Guy up on the high ledge, and fires her Saber. The shot strikes a glancing blow on the Husk, momentarily stunning it.

Phil sprints around the corner and takes up a position behind the satellite dish.

Lars moves next to Khivrak and carefully takes aim (not Aiming. He moved.) at the closest Husk with his Vindicator. His shot strikes the Husk in the upper left torso spinning him around. He drops to the ground unmoving.

Quick Actions Phase

Valeri steadies herself against the bolder in front of her and carefully aims (Aming) at the nasty-looking Husk (Specialist) directly in front of her. Its head separated from its body as it fell over the railing to the ground below.

Khivrak takes aim (Aiming) at the Big Bad Guy up high on the ledge once more. Once again her shot glances off what must be some type of armor. Stunning the Husk once again (2 Stuns now).

Enemy Actions Phase

The Big Bad Guy moves up to the edge of the ledge again (Stunned so only 1 action. 1 Stun marker comes off.). The remaining Husks meander toward the nearest crew member but are unable to engage.

Slow Actions Phase

Narira moves and takes up a covered position next to the closest obelisk. She takes aim (not aiming since she moved) at the closest Husk and opens fire with her Shuriken. A 3-round burst obliterates its chest sending it to the ground. She takes aim at another Husk nearby and sends another 3-round burst its way. One round found its mark (missed the defense roll), just enough to slow its progress and make it stumble backward (stunned).

Phil moves up next to Valeri. Weapon at the ready.

Lars takes aim (Aiming) at the Big Bad Guy up high on the ledge with his Vindicator. His shot finds its mark and the Big Bad Guy falls over the railing to the platform below.
