Who we are when the campaign starts
Mason and Marissa
After their run-in with the Epsilon Sigma Security Force following Toby's death, Mason and Marissa laid low and distanced themselves from everyone they ever knew. Mason's newfound passion would simply bring disappointment and grief to those they loved.
Setting up operations in the shipping office of a nondescript warehouse in the abandoned warehouse district of Rebus was Marissa's idea. She said that if they wanted to get dirt on Provost Durrance, bring him to justice, they needed to become legit and build a network of contacts. A task made much more difficult now that Provost Durrance has been transferred off-world.
The pair stuck to their plan and started doing odd jobs no one else wanted to do. Soon they were doing jobs for every low-life in the city; from thugs to City Officials.
Mason and Marissa soon found themselves being approached by individuals that wanted to work with them. Individuals who held a grudge for Provost Durrance himself or just disliked what MegaCorps like Epsilon Sigma stood for. People like Annie.
Snap
Let's talk about Snap. Snap sought out Mason specifically, five years following Toby's death. Snap made contact with Mason through a mutual contact and arranged a face-to-face meeting with just Mason and himself. Snap spilled his guts out to Mason and asked that he never tell another living soul, not even to Marissa. In exchange, he vowed his undying allegiance to him and his cause. After several weeks, Mason agreed and Snap joined the group and their cause. Snap functions as the group's “Big Brother” and watches out for everyone. His fighting and weapon skills are top-notch and he will always change the subject when asked about where he learned his awesome skills.
Marissa, always the “Big Sister”, looked for opportunities, despite Mason telling her repeatedly to “just drop it”, to dig into Snap's background. He had proven his allegiance to the group many times over but her intuition told her there was more to his story than their cause.
Finally, after 3 years, Marissa got the background info she thought she wanted, the info, deep down, she thought she already knew. How could someone be so devious as to contrive to infiltrate their group, to earn their undying respect? It takes a special type of evil to do that and now the group was to be fed to the wolves! By the time Marissa confronted both Mason and Snap she was furious!
There was a lot of personal baggage on display that night. Years of pent-up frustration laid out for all to see. A lot of relief was felt and a lot of personal introspection was done. In the end, Marissa apologized to both Mason and Snap for her undying curiosity that lead to a lot of false accusations. The information she received was completely false but the truth did come out that night. Mason even confessed to Snap that he had several meetings with Provost Abram verifying the story Snap told him. Mason even recounted things that Provost Abram told him but did not tell Snap about his captivity. Mason told the group that he can not prove it, but the stash of weapons and armor that showed up at their front door one day was one day following his last meeting with the Provost. He's pretty sure the Provost was making restitution for things they have been through. To this day, Provost Abram refuses all requests for an audience from any member of the group.
A new level of trust and comradery was won that night by all!
Annie
Born Anabel Salt, right here in Rebus. Both parents worked in the mines and Annie as her friends call her, grew up scavenging for scrap metal and parts just to help her family survive. Being small meant that Annie could fit into places most others could not. She got her mechanical and technical prowess from both parents and soon she could look at a heap of metal or a busted machine and know instinctively what to take off of it and who to sell it to that would earn her the most credits.
Shortly after Mason lost his best friend, Annie lost both of her parents in separate mining accidents within days of one another and the Epsilon Sigma MegaCorp wouldn't even recover their bodies for a proper burial. She vowed to bring down the MegaCorp or die trying. She feels fortunate to have found the Bray's and she considers Mason and Marissa her older siblings. The three have become inseparable.
