A list of commonly used terms used throughout this wiki.



A

Assembly A group of people gathered together in one place for a common purpose.
Auto Rifle A heavy rifle fitted with an ammo drum, and used for medium-range fire support.

B

Blackmarket An underground economy or shadow economy, is a clandestine market or series of transactions that has some aspect of illegality or is characterized by some form of noncompliant behavior with an institutional set of rules.
Bot Slang for the term Robot.

C

Cling Fire Pistol Sidearm firing a spray of sticky, burning chemicals.
Colony Rifle Standard-type defensive rifle, popular with colonists and frontier folk. Simple to maintain. Typically semi-automatic.
Comms Shortened term for the word Communicator.
Communicator A device used for personal communications. Typically installed on Star Ships or integrated into squad-level equipment. Used to provide guidance or direction.
Core Worlds or Core Space Gleaming Mega-Cities and bustling spaceports, with Unity armed forces maintaining security and safety. The Core Worlds are comprised of the Tri-Galaxy's four inner-most quadrants (Kappa, Lambda, Xi, and Omicron). Life on the Core Worlds is comfortable, your health guaranteed by genetic updating, your safety guaranteed by the might of the star fleet, your retirement guaranteed by correctly filling out Form 274C and supplemental form 37C-3 (first 4 pages only).

D

Diplomat An official representing some sort of governing body or other authoritative entity.
Distraction Bot A deployable Bot used to distract an opponent. ( Usable once per battle as a Combat Action. Select an enemy within 12”. Next time they would become active, they are unable to act, though they remove Stun markers as normal. Use a small marker to remember. )

E

Eps Slang for any individual employed by the Epsilon Sigma Consortium.

F

Former Diplomatic Starship A Starship previously used for diplomatic purposes or events. Commonly sold used by ship merchants at Spaceports.
Fringe or Fringe Space A result of the “Fringe Expansion”, the brainchild of entrepreneur and investor Jonathan Meeks, referred to simply as “the Fringe or Fringe Space”, these worlds are formally under Unity control but for all practical terms are allowed to self-govern, so long as the local governments and authoritative collectives maintain a reasonable level of control. Due to the lack of a central, governing culture, Fringe worlds tend to exhibit substantial variation. Some worlds are hellholes, where death waits at every corner. Others are far more environmentally palatable, where the supply of resources (food, water, air) allows for a basic order to be formed.

G

Gene-Locked A technology whereby a device, typically a Lockbox or Weapon, is genetically locked to its owner preventing individuals other than the owner to access or use the device.
Gunship An aircraft heavily armed with machine guns or with machine guns and cannons, providing air support for ground troops in combat.

Hand Cannon hand_cannon.jpg Heavy pistol in a massive caliber. Appreciated by bug hunters galaxy wide.
Hand Gun Conventional semi-automatic pistol in a medium caliber.
Hand Laser hand_laser.jpg Portable energy-based pistol. Popular due to ease of use and lack of recoil.
Harem Boss Slang term used for an individual in control of other individuals for the purpose of exploitations. Typically for the purpose of slavery or prostitution.
Hired Muscle A term given to individuals who are paid to intimidate or kill someone else.
Holographic Projection System A large scale Hologram stage system that allows for life-like, life-size images to be displayed
Holo-Vid A recording or live event projected from a holographic projection system.
Hyper Blaster hyper_blaster.jpg Rapid-fire blast weapon. Most models rely on three rotating barrels to deal with heat build-up.

I

Infantry Laser Military energy rifle with detachable battery pack.
Intel A piece of useful information concerning a subject of interest or someone who has a knack for finding such information, no matter how esoteric it may be, and who doesn't mind deploying unconventional techniques to get what they need.

K

Krol A large rodent-like creature found throughout several star systems in Fringe Space. Typically considered by most as pests and plagues upon the inhabitants of those worlds, some worlds deem them a delicacy.

L

Leader An individual who typically makes the decisions for a group or unit.
Legacy Terminal Slang for the old original spaceport established when Rebus was first founded in «Year TBD». It was abandoned just over five years ago and the scuttlebutt is, Blackmarket vendors set up here on occasion to sell their wares.
Lockbox A storage container that contains a mechanism that prevents unwanted access.
Lower Wards An older, rundown section of a city or other urban metropolitan area that contain housing, businesses and other establishments to support life in the area. Typically one of the first areas established when a town or city is established.
Lynx Neo Nightclub A popular Nightclub known to the locals as simply “The Lynx”, is located in the Lower Wards of the mining city of Rebus on Nimbos 9. Frequented mainly by the working class of the area.

M

Marksman's Rifle Military rifle, built for sharpshooting. Common platoon-level support weapon.
Mega-City An extremely large, sprawling metropolis where anything can be found and anyone can disappear. Typically found on planets within Unity Core-Space. Mega-Cities are also home to many of the Tri-Galaxy's most well-known Mega-Corporations such as «TBD», «TBD», and the Epsilon Sigma Mining Corporation.
Muscle
An individual who prefers to solve problems with brute force, preferably with their fists, or is someone conscripted to move large, heavy, and/or bulky items.

Overseer An individual appointed to run the day to day operations of an organization's interest.

P

Pahwu A form of hand-to-hand combat first introduced by the «name TBD» tribe on «planet TBD». Today, Pahwu is a popular competitive sport of the lower class on many worlds in Fringe Space.
Pill Lord Slag for an individual who sells or distributes illegal substances.
Plasma Rifle Heavy rifle firing a stream of blue-white energy bolts. Excellent all-round combat weapon, but expensive, and difficult to cool.

Rattle Gun Conventional machine gun. Most Fringe models are outdated and somewhat kit-bashed. Typically belt-fed.
Remembrance Day A day set aside by local or galactic peoples to solemnly remember an event or person of influence and the impact said person or event has had on the lives of the local or galactic populations.
Ripper Sword Short, chopping blade fitted with microscopic “teeth” for ripping and tearing. Popular with K’Erin marines.
Rival An individual or group competing with another for the same objective or for superiority in the same field of activity.
Robot A machine, typically resembling a human being and built in a bewildering array of configurations that will fit most combat, security, and multipurpose Bots. They are fitted with emotion simulation modules, allowing fairly complex “personalities”.

S

Scumbag Slang for an individual, usually of ill-repute. Commonly known as rabble, riffraff or lowlife.
Scanner Bot A deployable Bot used to scan an area for all forms of life and electronic signals. (The crew adds +1 to all Seize the Initiative rolls.)
Scavenger An individual who is adept at finding and or fabricating items out of other seemingly junk items.
Scrap Pistol A pistol pieced together from scavenged parts. Common on the frontiers.
Second in Command An individual who makes decisions for a group or unit while the Leader is unavailable or incapacitated.

Sector ITEM DESCRIPTION
Shatter Axe This bulky weapon discharges a blast of energy as it strikes. Originally intended for breach-and-clear operations.
Shell Gun Stand-alone grenade launcher. Many of these are custom-built.
Shipbroker aka Broker. An individual who sells used or salvaged starships or other space faring craft. Often times, individuals have a questionable nature and may not be aboveboard in their dealings with customers.
Shotgun Smooth-bore weapon firing a hail of pellets. Common hunting and defensive weapon.
Sixdigits A seedy bar located in the Lower Ward of the mining city of Rebus on Nimbos 9. Frequented by all sorts of low-life thugs and goons.
Stim Pac A device containing a small amount of a substance known for its healing properties. Typically packaged in single-use portions and when pressed against a “fleshy” portion of the body the substance is injected automatically. (If a character would become a casualty, they remain on the table with a single Stun marker. This item can be used reflexively upon becoming a casualty. It does not require an action.)
Social Status Indicator (SSI) A galactic-wide rating system that signifies an individual's trustworthiness for the purpose of Unity controlled transactions.
Sozarian Ale A highly euphoric-inducing bluish liquid with swirling orange remnants from the Torina Minor plant that is known to cause hallucinations in most non-human species.
Spaceport A base from which spacecraft are launched.
Starport Scum see scumbag
Starship A large manned spaceship used for interstellar travel
Sub-Contractor An individual or group that carries out work for a company as part of a larger project
Suppression Maul A riot-control weapon that overloads pain receptors in most biological lifeforms.

T

Tri-Sprial Galaxy Is home to billions and billions of life-forms and encompasses all of Unity controlled space as we know it.
Teratet The average member of this species has a slender build and is quite tall. They have light brownish orange skin and are completely hairless. They have very large ears, distinctive markings on their arms and legs, small hornlike protrusions on their foreheads, and black fish-like eyes. They wear richly decorated clothing that leaves very little to the imagination and cybernetic implants. Their native habitat is a temperate climate. They are often intellectual, and they are well-known for their distinctive art style. While they possess starships with FTL capability, they are rarely seen out of the Omega sector.

U

Unity A united, coherent, galaxy-spanning government encompassing all of humanity and countless aliens granted human status, Unity has come to be synonymous with “galactic civilization” to most humans.
UTS Unity Transport System, A name prefix commonly given to large Unity controlled Starships which are purpose built to transport goods and materials.
